Welcome to Dumfries and Galloway. We wanted to share a few of our favourite shopping and eating places in the area. This is not an exhaustive list of places but we hope you enjoy some of them.

Local Shopping
Colvend Stores is open until 8am - 6pm six days a week and 8am _ 4pm on a Sunday. The owners are very supportive to the local community and are happy to deliver for orders over £10.

You will find newspapers, postcards fruit and vegetables along with a great array of groceries.
Loch Arthur Farm Shop is an organic farm shop and cafe based in Beeswing on the A711. This is one of our favourite food places in Dumfries and Galloway. Stock up on home made breads, milk from the farm, organic meats, cheeses and cakes. You are also supporting a working Community which includes men and women with learning disabilities. Lovely cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Excellent menu and relaxed atmosphere.The shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and the cafe from 9.30am to 4.30pm. ( please check times as these do change )

Annettes Baking in a Box a local lady in Colvend who makes amazing cakes quiches and treats. Having won numerous Great Taste Awards her business has gone from strength to strength. All our family celebrate special occasions with one of Annettes cakes but who needs an excuse? Annette will deliver to the cottages and you will need to order in advance.

In House Chocolates in Castle Douglas is an artisan chocolatier hand making 65, mouth-watering chocolate flavours using traditional methods. In House Chocolates is a delightful shop we always visit when in Castle Douglas and your hamper will have a wee treat in from there. In House Chocolates also serve fresh ground coffee and welcome dogs.

Colvend Produce and Makers Market Our very own farmers market with local goodies and treats. Cakes, bread soaps and gifts all produced locally. The fourth Saturday of each month ( except winter ) 10am till 2pm at Colvend Village Hall. Look out for the road signs.
Harris Wine Shop and Deli situated on the main street in Castle Douglas where knowledgable staff will help you choose your wine, local craft beer and spirits. Wine tasting evenings and home delivery.
Crafty Distillery based in Newton Stewart so a wee drive, we it make a day trip and visit The Rhins of Galloway, Logan Gardens and Glenwhan Gardens. Crafty Distillery is run by a passionate team who’s mission is “To create tasty honest craft spirits for everyone who likes a tipple.” Our favourite is the Harbour Hills Gin and you can try them on a gin tour. https://craftydistillery.com

Rhubarb Kirkcudbright A beautiful modern country interiors, gift and homeware shop. Throws cushions, baby gifts, lighting all with a distinctive look and style which is cool, clean and crisp. A real treat to shop here and we always visit when we are in Kirkcudbright.

Country House Interiors. Eclectic mix of antiques, china and fabrics. The owner designs her own range of beautiful cushions. Based in Castle Douglas its somewhere we always pop in to as you will never know what you may find.
Eating Out
Mr Pooks Kitchen Creative cooking with local produce. Mr Pooks opened in Castle Douglas in 2018 and offers " Dumfries and Galloway on a plate.” Local produce, creative cooking. Booking for evening is essential.

Designs Gallery and Cafe a busy cafe in Castle Douglas serving home made breads tasty soup, sandwiches, creative lunch time specials, cakes and coffee. Lovely outside seating area which is dog friendly. The gallery has changing exhibits and beautiful jewellery and gifts.

Kirkcudbright Galleries Cafe a modern cafe serving a light menu using local produce in a bright airy space with view of St Cuthberts Church. Good coffee great cakes. Friendly professional service.

The Boathouse Glencaple stylish lunch venue with beautiful views across the Nith to Criffel and beyond. Interesting menu and a lovely spot to chill out. Outside seating area, perfect on a sunny day.

We try to tie a meal here in with a visit to Caerlaverlock Castle and WWT.
Thomas Tosh Thornhill a little further afield but worth the trip and you can visit Drumlanrig Castle or Crawick Multiverse for a full day out.Thomas Tosh is based in the old parish hall. Wonderful interiors, gift and book shop, gallery and a busy diary of events. One of our Christmas traditions is some shopping and lunch here. But its lovely any time of year.

Galloway Lodge Preserves Coffee Shop based in Gatehouse of Fleet has always been my parents favourite. Home-made soups, sandwiches and quiche, good coffee and tempting selection of cakes. Pick up some preserves and pickles, maybe start with their world famous Poacher's Pickle.
The coffee shop turns in to a burger bar from Spring to Autumn every Friday evening. Booking for cafe at peak times and Burger Bar essential.

Moores Fish & Chips are an award winning take away and dedicated to supporting the Scottish fishing industry they take pride in using the highest quality produce, sourced from Scotland’s leading supplier. Based in Castle Douglas we take our fish supper to the park overlooking Carlingwalk Loch and enjoy one of life simple pleasures.

Eating In
The Pizza Wagon parks up at Colvend village hall on the Friday of around the 23rd or 25th of the month. Serving wood fired hand made pizzas. It’s a very popular event so you need to preorder 07704 479902.
